Over the years the American Society for Automation in Pharmacy (ASAP) has developed standards or implementation guides for existing standards that tailor the use to a community pharmacy application. Last year their organization announced a standard for electronic tracking of pseudoephredrine sales and this year followed with an updated version of its prescription-monitoring program standard.

The ASAP board of directors therefore thought it only appropriate to recognize this role in the mission statement of the organization. ASAP is now recognized for its role in standards development, where necessary, to address unmet industry needs.

In addition to standards development, the organization monitors government initiatives that involve the use of technology and advises on cost and implementation issues. It also cooperates with other pharmacy associations where its technical expertise can be useful.

ASAP has gained a reputation for the quality of the two educational conferences it holds during the year. More information on these conferences is available at asapnet.org.
