Vow Data ’s new continuous data protection service (CDP) transfers the pharmacy’s data off site as prescriptions are processed. Vow Data’s CIO, Chip Simmons, views this real-time backup, which works with all pharmacy management systems running on a Windows PC, as a huge step for preventing data loss. When a pharmacy’s server is unavailable due to hardware failure or a network outage, Vow can redirect all workstations to its server without any user intervention. The company uses the pharmacy’s Internet connection to receive the data, and Simmons says that from the time the server crashes to the time the store is back on line can be as little as two minutes. He feels that CDP is ideal for high-volume stores and those with several stores on a single server. “With the combination of our nightly backup for accounting data and other various documents, plus our CDP service, data loss is a thing of the past no matter what time of the day disaster strikes,” Simmons says. |
