Cognitive Solutions, the global provider of high-performance thermal bar-code label printing solutions, has added Speed Script and QS/1 to its list of vendors providing support for its printers.

Speed Script will provide the interface to Cognitive’s C/Rx thermal script label printer for both its retail and nursing home systems. This printer produces high resolution labels and bar codes in a range of sizes. Nursing homes stand to benefit from the wider labels put out by these printers and from the small bar-code printing for scanning reorders and returns.

Chuck Welch, CTO for Speed Script, says he likes Cognitive’s excellent reputation for making ultra-reliable and easy-to-operate thermal printers. “They provided us with great support during our development cycle, and we’re happy to be working with them,” says Welch.

At QS/1 the decision to go with the C/Rx printer was based on its rugged industrial metal design, comprehensive PCL emulation, fast print and processing speeds, and high-quality composite graphics, according to Sonny Anderson, director of systems and technology for QS/1. The Cognitive printer provides print capability on up to four-inch-wide labels at 300 dots per inch and at speeds ranging from six to eight inches per second. Anderson also likes the small size that doesn’t require much counter space.

QS/1 will provide integration of the printer with its NRx, RxCare Plus, and PrimeCare pharmacy management systems.

Thermal printing is viewed as a reliable and cost-effective technology due to its low maintenance and toner-free requirements.
