First DataBank , in San Bruno, Calif., announced that it has licensed its OrderView Med Knowledge Base to HealthTek Software Solutions. This is a computerized physician order entry (CPOE) drug database for medication ordering and prescribing that HealthTek will be integrating into its RxReconcile medication reconciliation software. RxReconcile is point-and-click software that automates and integrates medication reconciliation with the ordering process to eliminate redundancy and reduce errors that can lead to adverse drug events. Medication reconciliation is a process of identifying the most accurate list of all medications that patients are taking and using this list to provide correct medications by comparing their current list against the physician’s admission, transfer, and/or discharge orders at all transition points within a hospital. Reconciliation is done to avoid medication omissions, duplications, dosing errors, or drug interactions. OrderView’s drug information content extends CPOE capabilities by providing validated dose and frequency selections proactively. Pre-built medication orders are tailored to physician workflow and support considerations such as PRN reasons, special instructions, dose adjustments for organ impairment, mg/kg calculations, rounding increments, and pediatric and discharge orders. The selections also provide translation to discharge prescriptions and patients’ instructions, a place where medication reconciliation plays a prominent role.
