The Hamacher Resource Group (HRG) has redesigned its TEMPS Category Manager program to better address front-end merchandising for independents and small chains. The program’s redesign features the company’s Never Outs on the first page of the monthly packet subscribers receive, with clear action steps given to motivate pharmacists to take note. Previously these items were several pages down in the packet and in small type. It was assumed that pharmacists knew what to do with this list, but HRG research showed this wasn’t the case. Other “action steps” in the redesign include which product line should be on eye-level shelving. “TEMPS is a flagship program for us,” says HRG’s VP, Dave Wendland. “It’s been part of the drug retailing industry for the past 28 years, and it’s set the standard all along in terms of profitable placement, promotion, and pricing of health, beauty, and wellness products. This re-vamp represents a significant change in how these products are emphasized to the independents, because they realize now that they need to rely on sales from their front ends more than ever before in order to compete.” HRG helps shape the consumer experience at retail to improve the profitability of front-end categories.
