RxScan, located in Delaware, Ohio, is offering its NDC Translator in a Windows PC version. Previously, it was only available embedded in the company’s NDC Smart barcode scanners. This translation software allows the output of most pharmacy 10-digit NDC number barcode scanners to be turned into an 11-digit NDC number.

According to Max Peoples, president of RxScan, the translator software enables the pharmacy management system to use the 11-digit NDC exclusively for identifying a medication. There are no drug dictionaries or lookup tables needed. “It saves the cost of purchasing new scanners and can be used anywhere you want to enter NDC numbers by reading the drug manufacturer bar code, and it simplifies Medicare and Medicaid 11-digit NDC billing compliance, as well as inventory tracking,” Peoples says.
