Kirby Lester’s new KL60 is a fully automated dispensing systems that is sized and priced for any retail pharmacy or hospital outpatient pharmacy that dispenses from 100 to 1,000 or more prescriptions a day. The new addition to the Kirby Lester product line handles the labeling and filling of a pharmacy’s top 60 drugs. According to the company, 60 cassettes are adequate to manage 30% or more of the prescriptions filled in the typical retail pharmacy and avoids slow movers from expiring before they are dispensed. “The KL60 is such a big deal precisely because it’s not big at all,” say Chris Thomsen, VP of business development for the company. “Sixty truly is the magic number for most mid- to high-volume pharmacies, which makes full automation with the KL60 viable and economical for many more pharmacies.” The unit can process 160 prescriptions an hour and includes a bidirectional interface with the pharmacy management system used. The KL60 can also accommodate three common vial types and two sizes, with direct fill from the cassette to the vial.
