Both outpatient pharmacies at Kern Medical Center (KMC) in Bakersfield, Calif., are now benefiting from the PharmASSIST ROBOTx robotic dispensing system from Innovation.

The two outpatient pharmacies dispense 20,000 prescriptions a month and, according to KMC CEO Paul Hensler, are expected to save nearly $50,000 in the first year due to increased efficiencies in formulary management, labor effectiveness, and reductions in supplies.

The Innovation system’s dispensers are computer controlled for all drug identification, dispensing, and replenishment, and eliminate the possibility of medication cross-contamination. ROBOTx is complemented by workflow software that uses barcode scanning, medication imagery, and other quality controls to reduce the opportunity for error.
