Cerner Etreby has added ApotheCare-MTM as a clinical component to its chain pharmacy management system. This MTM module assists in the assessment of a patient’s medication therapy. Pharmacists can document all prescription and OTC drugs the patient is taking and run these against the clinical database provided. A personal medication record can be printed and given to patients for use in the self-management of their therapy or to share with physicians and nurses. Another feature is the medication action plan, which also can be printed out and given to the patient at the conclusion of the session.

Every MTM encounter is documented in a consistent manner and follow-up visits scheduled. Billing can be done on paper or electronically sent to the patient’s insurance carrier.

Earlier in the year Etreby Computer Company was acquired by Cerner Corp. Cerner, located in Kansas City, Mo., is a leading provider of healthcare information technology, including pharmacies serving acute-care and affiliated clinic-based pharmacies through its PharmNet solution. Cerner has more than 6,000 clients worldwide. More than 1,200 pharmacies use the Etreby retail pharmacy system.

Commenting on the acquisition, Paul Gorup, senior VP of knowledge and discovery at Cerner, notes that, “from phsyician offices to hospitals, Cerner provides integrated technology solutions to connect the healthcare community through the full continuum of patient care.” With the Etreby acquisition, the company extends its footprint to include the retail segment as well. Mike Etreby, a co-founder of Etreby, feels that Etreby users “are in good hands, based on Cerner’s commitment to invest in our retail pharmacy solution.”
