Automated Dispensing for LTC Facilities

TCGRx in Powers Lake, Wis., has introduced a dispensing system for pharmacies serving nursing homes. The Remote Tablet Packager gives these pharmacies control of the prescription fulfillment process, while providing inventory savings to both the pharmacies and the nursing facilities. By allowing the pharmacy to place a controlled-access packaging unit at the facility, the nurse can prepare medications for a specific pass time. The end product is a compliance pouch that is custom labeled, prepackaged, and collated for a one-touch med pass and ease of cart stocking by the nurse. Weekend packages for the times and days needed are also generated from this system. Pharmacies have full control when serving the facilities because the medication canister filling and prescription order entry is handled bythe pharmacy.

“The market has expressed a need for delivering medications closerto administration time, so they [pharmacies] can provide their customers with a safer process and quicker access to the medications they distribute,” says TCGRx CEO Duane Chudy.

In addition, the company has created tools to facilitate a centralized dispensing model based on shorter fill cycles that result in many of the same benefits as remote dispensing, while minimizing capital expenditures.
