INDUSTRY WATCH: July/August 2015

The American Society for Automation in Pharmacy (ASAP) recently held its midyear conference at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla. Attendees at the conference benefited from a fast-paced program of 30-minute presentations covering a broad range of clinical, operational, and business topics, with an emphasis on how technology is being used to improve the efficiency and profitability of pharmacies.

One highlight of the conference was a speaker from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) who brought everyone up to speed on the ONC roadmap for achieving interoperability in the healthcare system and the importance of pharmacy integration within an interoperable system.

Also on the agenda was an update on the Drug Supply Chain Security Act’s requirements and timelines for “track and trace” of pharmaceutical products as they move through the supply chain. Pharmacists attending ASAP conferences gain CE credit from the various presentations given.
