McKesson Corporation hosts successful McKesson ideaShare 2018, an annual interactive forum for community pharmacists to improve their knowledge, performance and profitability while networking with industry experts.
Attendees learn from the best and take back insights and techniques in gaining access to new patients, fostering provider relationships, and identifying new revenue sources to help grow their business.
“McKesson ideaShare is very important to me, and it’s mainly because of the networking,” said Dennis Song, R.Ph., owner and pharmacist of Flower Mound Pharmacy in Flower Mound, Texas. “It makes me a better pharmacist, and it makes my pharmacy a better practice for our customers.” Song led one of the 100 educational sessions for the more than 2,000 pharmacies represented at McKesson ideaShare. This year’s conference featured focused learning, interactive exhibits, engaging workshops and networking with peers to provide pharmacy owners with the expertise and tools to maximize their clinical, operational and financial performance.

Health Mart® Delivers Solutions to Drive Performance and Patient Care
With more than 4,900 stores nationwide, Health Mart hosted its Annual Meeting during the week. “Our goal is for Health Mart pharmacies to be top of mind for their patients when they think about wellness and quality local health care. This is how they will continue to compete and thrive,” said Chris Dimos, president, Health Mart and McKesson Retail Solutions. “This week, attendees learned from the best and take back insights and techniques in gaining access to new patients, fostering provider relationships, and identifying new revenue sources to help grow their business.”
New This Year: Health Mart Atlas®—The Nation’s Largest PSAO
The recently launched Health Mart Atlas focuses on making managed care easier for community pharmacy by helping to identify opportunities that are right for their needs, and giving pharmacies the time to focus on those opportunities. It was created to support the success of community pharmacies and help them address the challenges they face today – lower reimbursements, narrow networks, industry consolidation and a general sense of uncertainty. The power of Health Mart Atlas will ensure that community pharmacies are included in the right networks to continue to provide quality care to patients and perform to their highest potential as the industry evolves to value-based care models. In the exhibit hall, Health Mart Atlas experts were on hand to discuss performance opportunities and action plans recommended by the myHealthMart and myMcKesson tools, including profitability reports and the DIR (direct and indirect remuneration) Estimator tool.
myHealthMart Helps Pharmacies Manage Their Business
Designed to help Health Mart pharmacies improve performance and patient care, myHealthMart integrates the digital tools available, including the Operations Toolkit. To date, 4,400 registered stores and more than 13,000 individual users are using myHealthMart. Key updates to myHealthMart include:
- Simpler, more intuitive navigation and improved access controls, makes it easy for every staff member to have their own myHealthMart account to access the tools and education.
- Featuring updated content and a new platform, Health Mart University offers new ways to learn with shorter courses, audio recordings, video programs and an expanded menu of live sessions.
- The Results OptimizerSM tool, embedded in myHealthMart, pulls in store-specific data to recommend resources and tools pharmacies can use to make practical changes to their business. Health Mart is launching five new content modules for McKesson ideaShare. The new modules cover adherence, staffing, immunizations and pharmacy tools to combat opioid use disorder.
Engaging Patients with Expanded Clinical Services
In addition, Health Mart has launched the next generation of the Health Mart Marketing Hub. First launched in 2013, the Health Mart Marketing Hub has been revamped based on customer feedback to allow for easier searching, faster customization and expanded offerings. The new site will feature greater flexibility, giving pharmacies access to hundreds of professionally-designed marketing materials, and expert support. Health Mart offered on-site consultations with marketing experts to learn about new tools available through the Marketing Hub that optimize the pharmacy’s online presence.
Health Mart private label products featured new packaging at McKesson ideaShare, as well as expanded product categories, such as vitamins, eye and ear, and upper respiratory. Health Mart is also building new planogram solutions and increasing the frequency of private label promotions, as well as enhancing the new item auto-ship promotion platform.
Health Mart is also launching a children’s vitamin support program at McKesson ideaShare. The program helps pharmacies build relationships with families in their community and expand services as a healthcare provider. Vitamins will be ordered through McKesson Connect and marketing materials are available through the Marketing Hub.
To help Health Mart pharmacies maintain a year-round vaccination offering and create an additional revenue stream, Health Mart has partnered with PrescribeWellness to provide expanded access to the VaccineComplete program and Collaborative Practice Agreements (CPAs). The partnership enables pharmacies to receive signed CPAs within 48 hours and provides enhanced visibility into patient’s missing vaccinations. Community pharmacies miss up to 70 percent of immunization opportunities due to a lack of visibility into a customer’s vaccination status. Health Mart pharmacies can now offer vaccines during a pickup visit, or proactively invite a list of eligible patients with a pre-recorded message.
Health Mart also showcased new capabilities for the Physician Outreach Program. New drug category information will enable pharmacies to see the top categories prescribed by local prescribers improving their ability to target physicians based on the type of patients they see and the drugs they prescribe.
Continuing Investments in Community Pharmacies
McKesson’s RxOwnership® hosted the second annual “Women in Pharmacy – Own It” event, featuring Mary LoVerde. The Own It program focuses on four key areas: ownership, mentorship, leadership and work/life balance for women. Creating a community of women helping other women succeed, the program includes matching pharmacy students with owners and empowering ownership.
McKesson also hosted the annual RxOwnership Luncheon, featuring a panel of industry experts experienced in buying, selling, and starting pharmacies. In the past year, McKesson has assisted over 400 owners start new pharmacies and has helped more than 5,000 pharmacies through the ownership-transfer process since 2008.
McKesson Pharmacy Systems (MPS) presented the latest in technology products and services along with McKesson High Volume Solutions (HVS), Macro Helix and Supplylogix. MPS showcased its portfolio of pharmacy management systems, including EnterpriseRx and Pharmaserv, with fully integrated patient engagement and clinical programs designed to help pharmacies improve patient outcomes, maximize operational performance, ensure medication adherence, and more easily communicate with patients. Pharmacies using McKesson’s in-workflow tools have seen an increase in STAR ratings across categories. HVS helps multi-pharmacy owners automate a central pharmacy operation. Macro Helix provides innovative software solutions to help covered entities and contract pharmacies navigate the 340B environment. Supplylogix showcased its suite of inventory management solutions for independent owners.
