The Avant Institute is hosting two free webinars this week in response to the coronavirus crisis. The first is COVID-19 Testing & Independent Community Pharmacy on March 31 at 8 p.m. EST. The second is The Role of the Pharmacist in Telehealth and Remote Clinical Services on Wednesday, April 1, at 9 p.m. EST.
Tuesday’s webinar will clarify testing for COVID-19 and how it has impacted independent community pharmacy. Wednesday night’s webinar is focused on the changes to telehealth during the COVID-19 outbreak and how to optimize remote clinical services.
Amina Abubakar, Pharm.D., president of Avant Institute, says she has been speaking with FDA and other organizations to get information to ensure independent pharmacy is on track to make an informed decision and better serve its patients.
Objectives that will be covered include:
- Current testing methods available.
- COVID-19 serology testing and interpretation algorithm.
- FDA’s role and understanding how to “vet” your own tests kits.
- The value pharmacists brings to antibody testing.
“Despite the challenges we are currently navigating, I believe It is important for community pharmacists to learn more about what is out there, share how we can be a resource to understanding community spread, aid in how we return to work safely, and mostly stay connected as a group to tell our story before our competition,” Abubaker shared in an email about the webinars. “I decided to put together a webinar so I can share information, answer any questions, and make sure we place ourselves strategically to help our communities.”
In Wednesday’s webinar Avant experts will focus on changes to telehealth during the COVID-19 outbreak and pharmacy is using remote clinical services “keep our patients engaged and healthy,” according to information from the organization.
